DNS

Read and edit the router's DNS configuration, covering static servers, DHCP-supplied servers, and the DoH endpoint.

Overview

The DNS page shows the router’s RouterOS DNS configuration in three rows: the static servers you set, whether DNS over HTTPS is active and against which endpoint, and the dynamic servers the router picked up from DHCP or PPP peers. Only the first two are yours to change, because the dynamic list is read-only.

The page is not on the router tab bar. Reach it at /router/<router-id>/dns in the panel.

Before you start

  • The session must hold valid credentials for this router.
  • Changing DNS affects every client that resolves through the router.

Steps

  1. Open the DNS page for the router.
  2. Read the current configuration. Press Refresh to re-read it from the router at any time.
  3. Press Edit to open the edit dialog and change the static servers or the DoH endpoint.
  4. Save. The page reloads the configuration from the router afterwards.

Reference

Row What it shows Editable
Static DNS servers Servers configured on the router, or “None configured”. Yes
DNS over HTTPS An Active badge and the DoH endpoint, or “Disabled”. Yes
Dynamic servers Servers supplied by DHCP or PPP peers, or “None received”. No

Troubleshooting

“Missing router credentials for this session.” Reconnect to the router from the Routers list.

“Failed to load DNS configuration.” The router did not answer the DNS read. Press Refresh, and check the router is reachable.

The Edit button is greyed out. It stays disabled while the page is loading or if no configuration was read.
