Graphical installer

Install the panel on your router with the desktop app for Windows and macOS, from login details to the first router.

Overview

The graphical installer is a desktop app that installs Nasnet Panel on your MikroTik router. It connects to the router over SSH, checks what the install needs, prepares the router if necessary, then downloads and installs the panel. If it needs you to confirm something or act on the router, it shows the instructions on screen. If something fails, it undoes what it changed.

It runs on Windows and macOS. There is no Linux version. On Linux, use the command line instead.

Before you start

Work through Before you install first. When you start, you should have:

  • A backup of the router’s configuration saved on your computer.
  • The router connected to the internet, and your computer connected to the router, preferably with a cable.
  • The router’s current IP address, and the username and password of a user with full rights.

Steps

Windows

  1. Open the downloads page and, under Nasnet Panel, download the Windows version of the installer.
  2. Run the downloaded file. The installer is not code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen may show Windows protected your PC. Make sure you downloaded the file from the official Nasnet page, then click More info and Run anyway.
  3. Continue with Run the installer.

It runs on 64-bit Windows 10 and 11. It needs Microsoft Edge WebView2, which both already include.

macOS

  1. Open the downloads page and download the macOS version of the installer.
  2. Open the .dmg and drag Nasnet Panel Installer into Applications.
  3. Open it from Applications. The app is not notarized by Apple yet, so the first launch is blocked:
    • On macOS 15 (Sequoia) and later, open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down, and click Open Anyway next to the message about Nasnet Panel Installer.
    • On earlier versions, Control-click the app, choose Open, then Open again.
  4. Continue with Run the installer.

It runs on macOS 10.15 (Catalina) or later, on both Apple silicon and Intel Macs.

Run the installer

  1. Fill in the router’s details:
    • Router IP or hostname: the MikroTik’s current IP address.
    • User: a user with full rights, usually admin.
    • Password: that user’s password.
  2. If the MikroTik connects to the Starlink over WiFi, tick Use WiFi as uplink. The installer asks you to Pick a WiFi network later.
  3. Open Advanced options only if you need to change a port or the image. See Reference.
  4. Click Install.

During the install

The installer’s current step is on the left and the log is on the right. The log shows each completed step and any errors. While it runs:

  • Keep the installer open and the computer on, and stop the computer from going to sleep.
  • Do not unplug cables or the router’s power unless the installer asks you to.
  • The router may restart several times, and the connection may drop for a while. A dropped connection on its own does not mean the install failed.

The installer may stop and ask you to:

  • Router restart required: restart the router, then click I restarted the router.
  • Physical confirmation required: RouterOS needs you to confirm the Device Mode change on the router itself. Read the instructions on screen, click Proceed, then within 120 seconds briefly press the mode or reset button, or unplug the router and plug it back in, depending on the model.
  • Pick a disk for the container: choose a USB drive or disk, then click Use this disk.

Do not press any button on the router before the installer asks for it, and do not hold the reset button down. The confirmation method for each model is in MikroTik’s Device Mode guide.

The install is complete when the installer shows a success message.

Open the panel

  1. Wait a few seconds for the panel to start.
  2. Note the panel address on the installer’s final screen.
  3. Renew your computer’s DHCP lease, or disconnect and reconnect its network connection. The install may move the router’s LAN to a new address.
  4. On a device connected to the MikroTik’s network, open the full address in a browser. With the default LAN settings, it is http://192.168.10.1:8080/.

Always use the address the installer shows. If your computer has a manually set IP address, switch it to obtain an address automatically through DHCP.

Then add your router to the panel. Sign in with the MikroTik’s own username and password. The panel has no separate account. If the router has not been configured through the panel yet, the Easy Config wizard opens next. If you use an Iranian ISP router, connect it to the WAN port you choose there after the wizard finishes.

To remove the panel, fill in the router details and click Uninstall.

Troubleshooting

Windows doesn’t let the app run. SmartScreen blocks unsigned apps. Click More info, then Run anyway. If there’s no Run anyway button, your organization’s policy blocks unsigned apps. Use the command line through WSL instead.

macOS says the app is damaged or can’t be checked. Use Open Anyway in Privacy & Security as described above. If that doesn’t work, run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine "/Applications/Nasnet Panel Installer.app" in Terminal.

The installer can’t connect to the router. Check that the router is on and the cable is connected, then check the IP address, username and password. Try signing in with WinBox. If WinBox connects but the installer shows an SSH error, check that the SSH service is enabled and reachable from the LAN, and that the ports under Advanced options match the router’s (8291 and 22 by default).

Downloads fail. Check the router’s internet connection, then run the install again as the installer’s message says.

The install stops at Device Mode confirmation. Follow the instructions on screen and confirm on the router itself. If the time ran out, try again as the installer’s message says.

The install succeeded but the panel doesn’t open. Check that you entered the full address the installer showed, including http:// and the port. Check that your device is on the MikroTik’s network, renew its DHCP lease, and switch a manual IP address to DHCP. Try another browser or device on the same network.

The panel opens but can’t connect to the router. Check the router’s current IP address and login details. If the scan does not find it, use Add manually.

The install did not finish. Take a screenshot of the error and the log, fix the cause, and run the install again. If the router’s state is unclear, ask for support before you reset it to factory settings. A factory reset erases the configuration, so make sure your backup is on your computer first.

Asking for help

Include the following so support can look into it quickly:

  • The router model and RouterOS version.
  • The installer version, if it is shown in the app.
  • A screenshot of the whole installer window, with the current step and the log visible.
  • The error text and the last step you took.
  • How the router connects: by cable, or with Use WiFi as uplink.
  • Whether the router was new or had a NasNet Connect configuration.

Remove passwords, VPN keys and other private details from screenshots and logs before you send them. Ask in Getting support or the NasNet Telegram group.
