## Overview

Significant weather attenuates the radio signal. Moderate to heavy rain, snow
and hail cause momentary dropouts, and storms sitting over a ground station can
affect service even when your own sky is clear.

The satellite-to-satellite laser links let traffic route around storm systems,
which limits the damage but does not eliminate it. Expect short interruptions
during a storm and normal service once it passes.

## Before bad weather

- Make sure every cable is fully plugged in.
- Make sure the dish is securely mounted.
- Consider a surge protector.

## Hurricane-force wind

- **Bring the dish and cables indoors if it is safe to do so.**
- If the cable has to stay outside, protect the exposed ends from water. A wet
cable must dry out **completely** before you reconnect it.

## After the weather clears

If problems persist once conditions are normal, check these two things before
anything else.

**Did the router factory reset itself?** The Starlink router resets after
**6 consecutive power cycles**, and a flickering power outage produces that
easily. Your network name and password would be gone and the network back to
open `STARLINK`. Set them again in the app. See
[WiFi](/en/guides/starlink/router-config/wifi/).

**Is the hardware damaged?** Inspect the outdoor components. Debris may have
struck something, or water may have got in, and neither is always visible at a
glance. Dry any wet cable fully before reconnecting.

If neither explains it, contact support.
