## Overview

Work out which of these you are dealing with before you start pulling cables.

| Situation | Go to |
| --------- | ----- |
| It has never worked, this is a new install | [Initial setup](/en/guides/starlink/offline/initial-setup/) |
| It worked yesterday and does not now | [Suddenly offline](/en/guides/starlink/offline/suddenly-offline/) |
| WiFi works, ethernet does not | [Ethernet](/en/guides/starlink/offline/ethernet/) |

## The first two things to check

**Connect to the Starlink WiFi and open the app.** Alerts on the home screen
name the actual fault, and working from an alert is much faster than guessing.
See [App alerts](/en/guides/starlink/alerts/).

**If the app shows a cloud icon** next to the network name at the top left, tap
the network name and choose **Local**, so the app talks to your router directly
rather than through the internet.

If you cannot reach the Starlink WiFi at all, go to
[Suddenly offline](/en/guides/starlink/offline/suddenly-offline/) and start
with the power cycle.

## A note on third-party routers

Most of this guidance assumes you are using the Starlink router. Third-party
routers and networking equipment can block the app from reaching the Starlink
hardware, which produces symptoms that look like a dish fault and are not. If
you have one in the path, take it out before troubleshooting.
