## Overview

The Starlink cable is not just an ethernet cable that happens to fit. It is
power-rated for the kit, it carries a water-resistant seal and a locking
mechanism, and it is the part of the install most likely to cause trouble later.

## What ships with each kit

**Standard 4 and Standard 4 X**

- 15 m (49.2 ft) detachable power-over-ethernet cable, dish to Router 3
- 1.5 m (4.92 ft) detachable AC power cable, power supply to router

**Starlink Mini**

- 15 m (49.2 ft) detachable DC power cable

Longer cables specific to each kit are sold in the Starlink shop.

## Do not extend or substitute

The Starlink cable conforms to RJ45 standards, which tempts people into
splicing on more length or swapping in a third-party cable. Starlink recommends
against both, for reasons that are more than warranty boilerplate:

- Quality of service is not guaranteed on a modified or joined cable.
- The seal and locking mechanism are what keep water out. A generic cable
  removes that, and **water damage to the dish is the likely result**.
- The cable is power-rated to the kit.

Damage caused this way can void the warranty. If you need more reach, buy the
longer cable for your kit.

## Routing it indoors

The **cable routing kit** and **masonry routing kit** contain the hardware to
pass the cable through most walls. Both appear in the Starlink shop once your
kit is ready to ship.

Treat the cable carefully once it is in place:

- Keep it free of kinks and debris.
- Do not trap it in a door jamb.
- **It is not rated to be buried or run underwater.**

Damage to the cable shows up as degraded service rather than an outright
failure, which makes it easy to misdiagnose as a satellite problem.
