# Access Logs

## Overview

**Access Logs** is real-time traffic monitoring: a streaming table of individual
connections showing the subscription, the source IP, the destination domain and
whether the connection was allowed or rejected. Use it while something is
happening, such as debugging a routing rule, confirming a new inbound is being used,
checking why a destination is being blocked. For questions about the past, use
[Access History](/en/guides/nasnet-linux/server/access-history/) instead, which
searches persisted hourly summaries.

## Before you start

- Access logging must be enabled for the server; the node selector says so
  explicitly when it is not.
- How long raw entries survive is governed by `retention_access_log_days` under
  **Settings → Data Retention**.

## Steps

1. Open **Server → Access Logs** from the sidebar.
2. Filter down to what you care about: type into the **Subscription** box, pick
   a **Status** and a **Network**, or search across domain, IP and port.
3. Choose how many rows to pull at once, either 200, 500 or 1000.
4. Set an auto-refresh interval to watch the stream live, or leave it off and
   refresh by hand.
5. Sort by any column header, whether Time, Node, Status, Subscription, Source IP or
   Domain.
6. **Clear filters** resets the view when a narrow filter leaves you with
   nothing.

| Column | What it shows |
| ------ | ------------- |
| Time | When the connection was logged. |
| Node | The server the entry came from. |
| Status | Whether the connection was accepted or rejected. |
| Subscription | The subscription the connection belongs to. |
| Source IP | Where the client connected from. |
| Domain | The destination that was requested. |

| Status | All Status, plus the individual statuses |
| Network | All Net, plus the individual networks |
| Row limit | 200, 500, 1000 |
| Auto-refresh | Off, 5s, 10s, 30s |

## Troubleshooting

**The node selector says no nodes have access logs enabled.** Nothing will
appear here until access logging is turned on for the server, on the
[Server](/en/guides/nasnet-linux/server/) **Settings** tab.
