# WAN

## Overview

**WAN** is where the abstract answer you gave on **WAN Link Type** becomes
concrete. For each link you said you had, this step asks which physical
interface it arrives on and how it gets an address, whether by DHCP, a static address, or
PPPoE. The in-app help summarises it as *"Configure your internet connection,
multi-WAN setup, and VPN client settings for optimal connectivity and
redundancy."*

The step has its own vertical stepper. Which sub-steps appear depends entirely on
your WAN link type: a foreign-only setup gets **Foreign WAN**, a domestic-only
setup gets **Domestic WAN**, and "both" gets both. **VPN Client** is always
shown, whichever links you have.

## Before you start

- Know which port each link plugs into, by name.
- Have PPPoE credentials, static addressing details, an LTE APN or a Wi-Fi SSID
  and password ready, depending on how each link connects.
- If you want the router to dial a VPN, have your provider's configuration file
  or its connection details to hand.

## Steps

1. **Foreign WAN.** Configure the foreign link, if you have one.
2. **Domestic WAN.** Configure the domestic link, if you have one.
3. **VPN Client.** Enable and configure a VPN connection, or leave it off.
