# WAN Link Type

## Overview

The screen is titled **WAN Link Configuration**, described as *"Choose your internet
connection setup for optimal routing"*. Three cards describe the three possible
shapes of an upstream: domestic only, foreign only, or both. Each card draws a
small network topology diagram of what that choice looks like.

This is the single most far-reaching answer in the wizard. It decides which
**WAN** sub-steps you get, whether the **VPN Server** and **Network Tunnels**
steps appear under **LAN** at all, and which LAN networks get created. Both the
VPN Server and Network Tunnels steps require a domestic link, so if you pick
foreign only, they are not shown.

## Before you start

- "Domestic" means a link from a local ISP inside your country. "Foreign" means
  a link that reaches the wider internet directly, such as Starlink.
- If you have both, you get the split-routing setup the project is built for:
  local traffic goes out the domestic link, international traffic out the
  foreign one.

## Steps

1. Read the three cards and the topology diagram on each.
2. Click the one that matches your situation. Selecting it completes the
   sub-step and moves you on to **Router Model**.
